My work is basically a search for simplicity, silence and space.
In that search I have moved progressively from an expressionistic figuration toward an abstract, minimal expressiveness, together with a fundamental experimentation with the basics of painting (color nuances, shadow, brushstrokes, structure, composition) until I reach a satisfactory result.
Inspiration often comes from landscape tones and structures as well as from liturgical themes and their symbolic colors.
Historically speaking, I feel the most affinity with the so-called 'new abstraction' which is relatively free from further labels or categories.
Mijn werk is vooral een zoektocht naar eenvoud, stilte en ruimte.
In die zoektocht ben ik hoe langer hoe meer gegaan van een een expressionistische figuratie naar een abstracte, minimale expressie, samen met fundamentele onderzoek naar kleur, schaduw, gebaar, structuur e.d., totdat ik een voldoende resultaat bereik.
Inspiratie komt vaak van zowel landschap sturcturen en tonen als van liturgische thema's en bijbehorende symbolische kleuren.
Historisch gesproken, voel ik affiniteit met de zgn. 'nieuwe abstractie', die relatief vrij is van verdere etiketten of kaders.
